Between Us

The space between us
Like a blow to the lungs
Robs me of air and breath
A-gasp I live on, discontent

Like a powerful earthquake
The ground beneath us
Opens up in between us
A line of division to circumvent

Still sure as the earth turns
As the sun rises and falls
And many moons are awoken
Love remains, but sadly unspoken

Cocooned like a butterfly
Preparing myself for change
Released to the world alone
I flutter, hoping you come home
