My Friend

Within each of us is a tiny flicker of light

So, when the clouds hover above your head

When the rain drops beat down, without mercy

When there’s no umbrella to shield you

Find that flicker of light and dry yourself off

If the winter brings a blizzard upon you

With icicles forming tiny weapons

Sheets of ice coating every escape route

Ignite that flicker of light and warm your body

When a hurricane destroys your home

Devastating not just buildings, but family

When no clear end is seen beyond destruction

Pour gasoline on that flicker of light and clear a path

You are fiercer than any storm you encounter

Stronger than any wind that may knock you down

More powerful than any natural disaster

Your light can illuminate the world; you are the sun
